Raghavendra Sharma was born and brought up in Delhi. He graduated with economics honors from Shivaji College, University of Delhi.
Raghavendra started his preparation in 2019 and cleared the first round of interviews. However, he missed the merit by just two marks.
Thereafter, Raghavendra put in all his work and effort in his second attempt and successfully cleared the UPSC with an All-India Rank of 340.

When asked about his inspiration, he said that “being born in a middle-class family, becoming an IAS/IPS has always been a dream in your family”, he also mentioned that a civil service is a career option The idea is to move forward. came from him As he was good at studies, his parents and grandparents often suggested he try civil service.
Raghavendra was inspired by Armstrong Palme, an IAS officer from Manipur. He came to know about her through Facebook when he was in 10th standard.
He was inclined towards civil services as he saw it as an opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of the people.
discipline is the key
He was inspired to see his co-candidates crack the exam. He firmly believed that “if he can do it, I can too”.
He said that he gets inspiration when he is confident about his hard work. He stressed that having a disciplined routine makes all this possible.
He says that a person’s background does not matter if one is disciplined and motivated enough.
What is the mantra for getting success?
Raghavendra claims that the only way to crack the UPSC exam is to set a goal and stay updated with current affairs. “Answer writing is an art to be developed”, he suggested.
He further said that it is futile to assume that people are naturally good at writing. Writing skill comes from practice. The more you practice, the better you write.
Did he do coaching or did he not do coaching?
Raghavendra talks about the phases he went through while preparing for the UPSC exam.
He claimed that he did not enroll in any coaching for GS preparation as UPSC coaching is very expensive. So he attended classes of only optional subjects and requested notes from friends to help him prepare for General Studies.
don’t try until you’re sure
Raghavendra missed just 2 points in his first attempt. The next preliminary exam was conducted exactly 14 days after the release of the final result. He missed, although he was sure that we would succeed in our first attempt. His hard work for a year went in vain, but he did not give up and started preparing again.
Raghavendra felt that now was not the time to be disheartened. The next preliminary exam is just after two weeks.
In such a situation, he overcame his despair and now the world is seeing the result of his deeds.
